MS Walk/Run in SLO April 2004
Before kids, I ran a couple of 10ks. But, after having Patrick I attempted to run and was very discouraged by the jiggle going on in places that had never before jiggled. I ran one time, and never attempted it again. That was 3 years ago. Well, I've decided it's time to run again, jiggles and all. I started a running program called the couch to 5k. You can learn more about it here. Basically it is a running program for non-runners. It is interval training that takes you from mostly walking for 30 minutes to running for 30 minutes in the course of 9 weeks (or however long you need to stretch it out by repeating weeks which totally depends on how far on the couch side you were to start with). There are podcasts you can download to your mp3 player that play music and tell you when it's time to run/walk. I've been using this Christian Indie one. Anyhow, thought I'd share in case anyone else wants to join me. Let me know if you decide to do it and we can pick a 5k (or 10k?) to do together sometime in late Spring/Summer. I just started week 2 today so you wouldn't be far behind. I waited to blog about it just in case I flaked and didn't keep it up. :) But, so far so good. I think it's helping that I've been doing my Bible study at the same time so I'm distracted from thinking that I'm actually excercising. I'm always a little surprised it's over already.

This was something I was supposed to start and then some health issues delayed me. You have inspired me. I'll start today...not kidding.
I don't know if I can do the official runs but I'll work at it!
Thanks for the pod cast link too, I'll check that out.
woohoo! go katy!!!
my sister did a similar program to build up to running (she has asthma), and it really worked well for her. this last sunday she ran a 1/2 marathon!
you made me laugh with all that jiggle talk. tell me about it! even if we lose the weight, the jiggle is still there! what's up? feeling the jiggle is a little disconcerting, isn't it?
oh, and just curious... how do you do your Bible study at the same time? that's talent, my friend.
Thanks for posting this! I have been wanting to start running but did not know where to start. Too bad I live in Ohio or I would totally do a 5k with you!
FYI: My sister in Iowa is doing it with me too! :) So far so good!
way to go Katy! I was wondering how do you do your Bible study at the same time.
I look forward to hearing how you are doing.
I'm glad to see some of you are interested in joining me. Keep me updated on know how you're doing. I'll check out dates for a 5k and a 10k.
As far as doing my Bible study at the same time, the first week or two have longer stretches of walking than running and I can hold my Bible and read at the walk times. And, since I'm too chicken to run by myself in the dark at night, I end up just running in place at home either at the kids' naptime or after they go to bed at night. I'm hoping to get out and actually run on the weekends.
oh you aren't chicken... it's smart to not run by yourself at night!
i came back to tell you, i really did do it.
however, i cannot seem to get mp3 formats to work on my computer. i need to get some help on why that is. any ideas?
