Backpacking- Jennie Lakes Wilderness, Sequoia National Forest

Chuck and I got away on a backpacking trip earlier this month. It was a blast! We were glad to find something similar in landscape to the Yosemite area but a little closer to home so we didn't have to drive as far to get there. It was gorgeous! There's nothing quite like backpacking with the one you love. :)

Chuck did some fly fishing. He caught mostly rainbow trout.

Beef Stroganoff anyone? It's actually quite good, despite being freeze dried.

The view from our campsite...gorgeous! There were only 7 people at the lake that night. You can see another couple's tent there on the far left in this photo.

See that little person in the photo? That's Chuck fishing.

Ah, the life.

There were quite a few patches of snow left still.

The wildflowers were beautiful.

While Chuck was off fishing, I made the campfire. It was my very first and I'm quite proud of it. I guess I was paying attention to my Uncle Donnie when he was building our campfires every year at Hume.

We had planned to do two nights on the trail, but a thunderstorm rolled in after the first night and we decided to call it quits since we had backpacked last year in a thunderstorm and found that our tent is nowhere near waterproof. We weren't interested in a repeat of that wet adventure. When we heard the thunder and rain that night tucked warm and dry in our bed at home we were glad we had made that call.
