I Love The Way He Thinks

Here's a conversation Patrick and I had a couple weeks ago driving home from the grocery store:

P: Mommy, sometimes when I wake up at night there are monsters in my room and I say, "Mommy, help. There are monsters in my room".

M: Remember monsters aren't real. They're just pretend.

P: But, sometimes when I wake up there ARE monsters.

M: You know what you can do when you're afraid? You can pray to God and ask Him to help you not to be scared.

P: But, I can't see God.

K: Well, no, you can't really see Him, but He can see you and He listens when you pray.

P: But, God is far away. He lives on the moon. (Grandma Kitty likes to say this to the kids when they see the moon together: I see the moon and the moon sees me, God bless the moon and God bless me. A little confusing to a 3 year old, I suppose.)

K: He doesn't actually live on the moon, Buddy. He lives in heaven, but He's everywhere. Actually, if you trust God, then He lives in your heart too.

(At this point he lit up like he had made a grand discovery.)

P: I know, Mommy. My spit can go down my throat and into my stomach and see God.

K: (Laughing) You're cute, Buddy.

P: You can't just say that! You should just say Packich Richard Smith, I love you.
K: Patrick Richard Smith, I LOVE YOU!
